Overview of the project

The project aims at introducing bamboo growing and processing as an economic enterprise in the region. Bamboo plants have multiple benefits including: use for furniture, construction, production of floor tiles among others Bamboo growing will also reduce pressure on indigenous forests in the basin and Mau catchment areas, thereby contribute to conservation and protection of river banks. Project components include establishment of bamboo multiplication and propagation centres, establishment of bamboo plantations, and a bamboo processing factory for value addition. Project benefits: the project will recruit over 500 bamboo farmers, while the factory is to create 400 direct and over 5000 indirect jobs.
