Floods and Drought has for decades been some of the most disastrous natural hazard in the region resulting in widespread fatalities, damage to infrastructure and property.  Over the last few decades the magnitudes of floods and drought incidences have increased as a result of climate change processes.  In the Ewaso Ngiro South River Basin region, flooding have been reported in several areas like Narok town, Siyapei, Mosiro, shompole, Nguruman, Narosura, Suswa, Magadi, Emarti, Mara, Siana, Maparasha, Amboseli road, ilchalai, Iltilal among others.

The Authority fully recognizes that sustainable economic development is not possible unless the threat posed by these disasters is contained and community resilience to drought and floods is enhanced. In order to address this challenge, the Authority in the past 5 years, Authority has constructed over 90 water pans / small dams, and drilled / rehabilitated over 80 boreholes providing 2.5 Million M3 of water to people and livestock.
